ITEM DESCRIPTION

This antique Northwood Glass bowl features the highly recognizable Nautilus, also known as Argonaut Shell, form produced in the early 20th century. The design is inspired by natural sea life, with a deeply molded shell shape that rises into a dramatic flared form. The interior presents a smooth flowing surface, while the exterior is richly detailed with pronounced ribbing and dotted texture that adds depth and visual interest.

The piece is made in transparent blue glass, offering a clean, even coloration throughout with a milky rim. The sculptural form and strong mold definition make this an excellent example of early American pressed glass design from the Northwood factory.

The Nautilus (Argonaut Shell) pattern is one of Northwood’s more sculptural early designs, drawing directly from oceanic forms. The combination of ribbed structure and dotted exterior texture creates a lifelike shell appearance, while the pedestal base incorporates additional sea-life motif detailing. This pattern remains a favorite among collectors of early American pressed glass for its bold form and strong visual presence.
