PATTERN & DESIGN

This early Rookwood cup and saucer set features a distinctive nautical theme rendered in delicate shades of blue. Small sailing ships and coordinating maritime elements decorate the cup and saucer, while the angular faceted forms give the set an unusually modern appearance for its 1886 date. The squared handle and geometric saucer echo the architectural styling found on other pieces from this early Rookwood nautical service. The combination of early Rookwood production, coordinated decoration, and unusual geometric forms makes this an attractive example of late-19th-century American art pottery.

The cup measures 2 1/2" High x 3 1/4" Wide rim to rim and the saucer is 5 3/8" Wide rim to rim. I have provided a lot of pictures to best describe the condition of this Set.
