ITEM DESCRIPTION

This Rosenthal Germany Porcelain Himmelstoss #128 Mallard Duck Figurine is in Excellent Vintage Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Designed by German sculptor Wilhelm Karl Robra-Himmelstoss for Rosenthal, this beautiful vintage porcelain bird figurine dates to the 1930s.

The figurine depicts a male Mallard duck standing in a natural pose with its head gently turned to one side. The detailed modeling captures the rounded body, layered wing feathers, webbed feet and characteristic shape of the Mallard.

The hand-painted decoration features a rich deep blue-green head, warm tan bill, dark chest and beautifully shaded gray and white plumage. Blue accents on the wings add another touch of realistic color and detail.

The duck stands on a simple oval white porcelain base that allows the detailed modeling and hand-painted decoration of the bird to remain the focus of the design.

The underside bears the Rosenthal Germany Kunstabteilung Handgemalt factory mark along with the impressed HIMMELSTOSS name and model number 128.

DESIGNER HISTORY

Wilhelm Karl Robra-Himmelstoss (1879-1938) was a German sculptor and porcelain designer particularly known for his naturalistic animal and bird figures. He created numerous models for Rosenthal, where his detailed representations of wildlife became an important part of the company's artistic porcelain production.

His animal sculptures are recognized for their realistic anatomy, natural poses and carefully observed details, and his signed Rosenthal designs remain collectible examples of early 20th-century German porcelain.

PATTERN & DESIGN

Model #128 depicts a male Mallard duck standing with its head turned slightly to the side, giving the figure a particularly natural and lifelike appearance.

Detailed feather modeling is enhanced by carefully applied hand-painted shading across the wings, breast and body. The deep blue-green head and blue wing accents provide striking contrast against the softer gray, brown and white tones of the plumage.

The combination of Himmelstoss's naturalistic modeling, Rosenthal's fine porcelain craftsmanship and detailed hand-painted decoration makes this a beautiful example of 1930s German porcelain animal sculpture.
