DESIGNER HISTORY

Betty Harrington was the principal designer associated with Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin. Her imaginative figurines, characterized by graceful forms, expressive personalities, elaborate costumes, and distinctive hand decoration, helped establish Ceramic Arts Studio as one of the most recognizable American ceramic manufacturers of the mid-20th century.

PATTERN & DESIGN

Gay 90's Couple #1 reflects Betty Harrington's interpretation of the fashionable clothing and romantic imagery associated with the Gay Nineties era of the late 19th century.

The woman's dramatic full-length gown features a fitted waist, puffed sleeves, decorative buttons, and an elaborate matching hat. The gentleman's tailored blue-green jacket and ivory trousers provide a handsome contrast, while the small dog adds a playful and charming element to the grouping.

Produced during the early years of Ceramic Arts Studio, this 1944-1946 design is a wonderful example of the elaborate costuming, soft coloration, and whimsical personality that made Betty Harrington's figurines so distinctive.

These measure approximately 6 1/2" High. I have provided many pictures to best describe the condition of these Figurines.
