This Ceramic Arts Studio Betty Harrington Design Gay 90's Couple #2 Figurine Set is in Excellent Vintage Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Designed by Betty Harrington for Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin, this colorful figurine set dates from approximately 1949-1956 and measures approximately 6 1/2" tall.

The set features a wonderfully dressed Gay Nineties couple accompanied by their dog. The gentleman wears deep blue trousers with a light jacket and blue vest and holds a bright yellow hat. His small brown dog sits faithfully beside him.

The woman is especially colorful, wearing a deep cobalt blue jacket with dramatic puffed sleeves over a long ivory skirt. Her decorative apron features blue, yellow, red, and ivory accents, while her small blue and red hat completes the elaborate period costume.

The vivid hand-painted colors, expressive faces, exaggerated period clothing, and charming poses give this pair the distinctive personality associated with Betty Harrington's Ceramic Arts Studio designs.

DESIGNER HISTORY

Betty Harrington was the principal designer associated with Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin. Her imaginative figurines, characterized by graceful forms, expressive personalities, elaborate costumes, and distinctive hand decoration, helped establish Ceramic Arts Studio as one of the most recognizable American ceramic manufacturers of the mid-20th century.

PATTERN & DESIGN

Gay 90's Couple #2 captures the colorful and theatrical fashions associated with the Gay Nineties era of the late 19th century.

The gentleman's blue trousers, vest, light jacket, bright yellow hat, and seated brown dog create a playful composition. His companion is particularly striking in her deep cobalt blue fitted jacket with dramatically puffed sleeves, long ivory skirt, colorful patterned apron, and jaunty hat.
